Soccer has been the limelight of sports of Holy cross college in the recent past. Before the separation from the mother school Holy cross Kalutara and Holy cross Payagala jointly had been performing since 2004.There, Holy cross achieved tremendous milestones in the field of soccer and brought more than sixty trophies to the college . Among many achievements the following major titles can be highlighted.
- Winning all island “Sam Chandrasinghe “ seven a side soccer tournament organized by Ananda college Colombo in 2017
- Winning the u_17 Futsal soccer championship organized by St. Joseph’s College Colombo
- Emerging runners up at the division one football tournament organized by the football federation of Sri Lanka and it was the highest achievement by any game in the history of the college
- The college under 19 team emerged 2nd runners up at the All Island Kothmale Chox tournament in 2018
It is pleased to mention that the majority of the teams consists with the players from Payagala branch. Besides the team achievements the individual performances also brought glory to our alma matar.
Holy Cross has produced more than 12 junior national players and three senior national players such as Sujan perera ,Lahiru Tharaka and Supun Kaveesha.
Besides them Holy Cross College Payagala itself had produced two junior national players, Roshen Subash and Sachintha Perera. In 2018 Mas. Udara Nirmal from Holy Cross College Payagala was awarded the golden boot since he became the all island best player at the division one all island football tournament.
After the separation from the mother school in 2019 Holy Cross College Payagala has begun a new journey in the field of soccer and given priority the establish a rock solid foundation to the grass root. In order to achieve, we have established a soccer academy for the under 10 students and started only the junior teams for U-12 and U -14 to reap the harvest in future
